Simplified Motor Control with Advanced MCC Solutions

Motor control centres are essential components in electrical power distribution networks. An MCC features a centralised assembly that includes one or more enclosed sections with motor control units at their cores and a common power bus. Each enclosed part is designed to handle and safeguard the system's electric motors, allowing equipment and machinery to operate from a single central location.

MCCs are often put in a separate air-conditioned room to allow for simple access or maintenance.

MCC Components and Features

MCC normally consists of the following components and functionalities.

Motor control units: These contain the switches and circuits that power the MCC starter, as well as relays, contactors, and other control components used to operate individual motors. The control panels allow operators to start, stop, and monitor motors.

The horizontal bus connects the MCC panel's primary power supply across its length to the numerous vertical bus portions.

The vertical bus, also known as the power bus, allows power connections to several starting units in the MCC. It regulates the total load of all the motors and control devices it serves.

Control and monitoring: Modern MCCs provide a safety mechanism for remote operations and diagnostics through integrated features such as network connectivity, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and soft starters that protect motors from overloads and other hazards.

VFDs and soft starts help conserve energy and save operating expenses by decreasing the motor speed when it is not needed.

Benefits of Using an MCC

Motor control centres from A&T Enclosures are essential for controlling many electric motors in industrial or commercial environments, providing centralised control, safety, and efficiency in motor-driven activities.
